being back on FB. is it stupid and a time-waster? perhaps, but it's nice in moderation. some people I'd been missing were none too easy to reach by other modes of communication. this time around, I'm not going to put up pictures or any extraneous information, though.
lady dates.
reselling books. I brought a big stack into my favorite used bookstore and got enough credit to pay for half of Feminist Perspectives on Eating Disorders.
conversations with bookstore people. the owner started telling me all this stuff about Mae West because I had bought a postcard of her, things which I'm sure he meant but I think he was telling me especially because I was buying a feminist book: "incredible, ahead of her time. she came out of the silents and into the talkies, she gave Cary Grant his break. saucy and outrageous. you should look up a biography of her sometime."
joining MentorCONNECT, an eating disorder recovery community. I was approved as a mentor and I am really excited. (and I never say I'm excited if I'm not actually.)
Belle and Erin.
hyper dancey music.
big future plans. I could have them all, too. ALL MY CAKE. just like Bruce Bogtrotter.
pigeons that let me touch them. my mom and I went to feed the ducks at one of the ponds in the park, and there weren't very many of them, so we just fed the pigeons. but that's okay, because they were so nice and chill and let me touch their backs, and all of a sudden I realized how cool-looking they are, if you forget that you've seen 230,000 of them in your life. when I'm an old lady, I'm going to keep pigeons in my backyard.
the IT Crowd. I hadn't seen any since my flight to Australia (thanks for the episodes, Qantas). I love it. everyone laughs.
Taize chants during communion.
full tea with small sandwiches and scones and tiny desserts. it's the only time I actually feel the caffeine from tea, because I end up drinking at least a pot on my own.
a newly-instituted student discount at one of the film labs I patronize.
Etsy orders. the kind where I get paid rather than the other way around! [shop is here. choose any picture I've ever taken and tell me what size you want.]
your turn! please share!
Congrats on the acceptance to MentorCONNECT! :)
ReplyDeleteSaumirah - Thank you! Do you know it? (That is, did you know of it before I mentioned it? Haha.)
ReplyDeleteDitto with the facebook thing. I recently returned to facebook and I'm keeping it really exclusive - no randoms from high school or people I met once at a party. Just actual friends.
ReplyDeleteI love getting the unexpected money back from selling books - so nice.
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of FB, myself. It makes me feel as if everyone I know is shallow and brags too much.
Raquel - An excellent policy.
ReplyDeleteIndie.Tea - Time for a friend purge? Thanks for stopping by :)
I love facebook. If you can't tell. Mostly because without it I would talk to no one outside of my church and one friend I see on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteAnd bookstore people are lovely. Especially ones who tell you not to buy a book because it was no good. Of course, I always go back and get it from the library to see if they were right, but they almost always are.
Holly and Erin. Tumblr. Starting to journal really truly actually. Crystal Castles. Foals. Fancy brownies. Nadia and Katy.
ReplyDeleteThe IT Crowd is the best, the absolute best. Have you also seen The Mighty Boosh? So good. I love British humour.
geekspawn - HAH now tell me another one. your bookstore people do sound lovely; I've actually never had one steer me clear of a bad book like that.
ReplyDeleteSummermoon - Love it. All of it. What's in a fancy brownie? I haven't heard of that show, but I will look it up and if necessary pester you for a watch link.
People on FB can brew rather vapid statuses.
ReplyDeletejust like Bruce Bogtrotter made me :)
ReplyDeleteHolly and Belle, my mother, black and white photography, tigers, musicians, strawberries for breakfast.
Julia - true. I don't care to watch the news feed.
ReplyDeleteErin - He's a great kid.
