Spring is being born and everything is being born. This is how I am feeling lately, from the moment I wake with the sky blowing on my face through the open window—so exultant. I ate lunch in the full sunshine thinking this is the sun's birthday and so I must share this with you, a favorite since freshman year.
i thank You God for most this amazing
i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday;this is the birth
day of life and love and wings:and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)
how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
- e.e. cummings
I love it! It makes me breath deeper. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'm generally not crazy about e.e. cummings, but "the leaping greenly spirits of trees" is one of the best-tasting phrases in the English language, I think.
ReplyDeleteJenica - So welcome. I'm glad.
ReplyDeleteNichole - Mm, I can appreciate that point of view. I like the misplaced adjective phrases quite a lot too. There is a character, I can't think who, who would speak that phrase, I think.
I love it. One of my favorite poems!
ReplyDeletesui - what is another one of them?
ReplyDeleteI used to have a collection of my favorites in a txt file a couple years ago, but I lost that in the great hard drive crash of summer '09 (along with 10k+ photos!...)
ReplyDeleteANYWAY, here are three of my favorites ;) http://s.rvxn.org/2010/05/28/3-poems-to-brighten-your-life/
sui - I enjoyed those! Thank you. Reminds me that I do need to give Leaves of Grass another try when I'm not so busy.
