April, looking out from a fourth-floor dormer

For the third night straight,
I have been awake to see the night through

And it is hard to see

dawn's approach through the rain.
Until you see.

  1. For some reason I always found it strange how SLOWLY dawn comes––probably because I'm used to waking up and it already being light.

It also didn't help that the birds would start singing every night/morning at about 2:30. Crazy birds.

  2. Is this good sleepless, or bad sleepless? Or both?
    It's a very graceful poem. <3

  3. Q - Yes, the birdsong is always my notification that it is Uncommonly Late.

Jenica - Obligatory, but not bad: I was working on a paper.

  4. I've only stayed up all night three times before, which is kind of odd considering what a night owl I am, but unlike Q I'm always surprised how fast it comes... start a poem, look up, and all of a sudden it's getting light out. Especially while camping; one moment you're freezing in the dark and suddenly there's light blinding you. I love it.

  5. geekspawn - A poem? What a good reason to stay awake. I definitely prefer all-nighters when dawn comes earlier. It's a bit depressing otherwise.
