Hail Thursday, fairest of days...

I really love reading books recommended to me by friends. Not just because my friends generally have such good taste in books, but also because I feel like I'm closer to the friend for it, like I learn something about her that way.

So today, for an entry in the giveaway, this is what I would like to hear from you: If you could recommend one book to me - or to any friend, for that matter - something that you really love, an outstanding book that is close to your heart, what would it be?

You can choose a book that you would recommend to any and all of your friends, or one that you think I especially would enjoy - whichever you prefer.

(FYI, I do intend to actually read your recommended titles. If you want to see if I've already read what you have in mind, you can check my Goodreads shelf.)

  1. That's odd. Your posting it at 9:38, but it's only 9:05 where I'm at. I guess it makes sense. Though it sounds weird.

Oh. Right. Book recommendation. Uh, is 2 okay?

Hidden Talents! and Alex and the Ironic Gentleman

I recommend those because not everyone has read them, and I love them.

  5. The Thirteenth Reality, James Dashner. It's MG, but I have to give a shout out for James. He gave me an ARC.

  6. This is always a tough question, and you've made it more difficult by having already read so many of my favourites, but one I've recommended to a few people lately is a short story anthology called "The Green Man," edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling. (I don't love all the stories, but I think it's an interesting collection.)

  7. Can I recommend 2? These books are great...

Lady Chatterley's Lover (a classic banned book... kinda eyebrow raising at some points because the, ah, intimacy gets kinda steamy, but I just love the way the book is composed)

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (in the same vein as Catcher in the Rye, but Charlie, the main character, is much more innocent and not as abbrasive as Holden. excellent read.)

    enjoy!

  8. But you've read my favorites!

I mean, because without a doubt, I'd recommend The Goose Girl first, if applicable. Which in this case, it sort of isn't, since you've already read it. And like it seems like everyone has.

And then Looking for Alaska would definitely be on my list, but again, pretty popular.

I need to become more creative.

  9. I'd have to say The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Terribly sophisticated and upper-level reading? No. But it's sooo much fun.

  10. Hmph. You've read a huge amount of my favorites, too!

BUT, you've only read one Jodi Picoult book?? Goodness gracious! I highly recommend Keeping Faith, Salem Falls, and Plain Truth are the three that come to mind immediately....

  11. The Year of Secret Assignments by Jaclyn Moriarty.

I see you have it on your to-read list already, but maybe this'll bump it up a notch, eh?

  12. Joel and Cat Sets the Story Straight by Nick Earls and Rebecca Sparrow. It is hilariously funny and so good.

  13. Undercover, by Beth Kephart. I know it's already on your to-read list, but you've read so many of my favorite books already! It's annoying. ;)
