April and manicotti

My dad was late coming home tonight, and my sister had to stay at school for a drama rehearsal. My mother and I made ourselves a nice dinner of vegetable-cheese manicotti anyways and had cookie dough and slightly burnt cookies for dessert.

Steam.

My cat gets anxious when my mom and I pay attention to something besides her.

  2. I stuff manicotti when it's uncooked, then cover it with sauce and add a cup of water to it. It cooks while it's baking and is terribly convenient.

  4. Q - Hm, that's an intriguing idea. They would be infinitely easier to stuff uncooked, but is the sauce really still okay with that much water added? Or does a lot of it evaporate, or what?

    Thanks, Maya. :)

  7. Wow. At my very old age I'm still learning some of these kitchenly secrets. I love these kitchen scenes.

  8. When you bake it, the water evaporates and is absorbed into the manicotti--that's why you add it. I'll link you to the recipe we use... Gah, I can't find it. It's on the back of the American Beauty manicotti. I don't know if you have it there; it's in a red box. Make sure you cover your manicotti with sauce though, so that when you bake it it doesn't burn.

  9. You're going to have to stop posting such delicious pictures up. Or else I may just get very very very jealous of you (not to say I'm not already) :)

  10. Erin - Sorry? ;) I feel like after all this food porn I should promise to cook for any blogger friends I meet.

Beth - Good, because the scenes are so lovely to be in!

Q - Hm, smart. I'll have to look for it.

    Green Maya? Surely never! :P
