Late-night rantings, an Inspirational Call to Action, all that good stuff

1. Isn't that a great face I'm making?

2. I have decided that for me, vlogging is going to be for when I just need to get things out. If I want to do drafts and be articulate, I'll write a normal post. Bah.

    Not ill-conceived.

  2. Oh hun, well said. I adore you so much :D I hope you vlog more. That is awful and sad about your sister, I hope she comes to her senses soon about the whole flab game :(

  3. I like your point. My little sister wasn't that extreme but at one point she was very conscious of the way she looked, even though we always have to buy extra small sized clothes.

I'm the loud outspoken big sister that shakes her up a little and tells her she looks great, or should, in fact, put on more weight but I'm starting to question how much of an effect another person can have on your life if you don't believe what they're saying.

With blokes you can't really tell if they're dieting because it's more the norm for them to put on muscle, but as far as being self-conscious goes, some men are more sensitive than others, just like women, I suppose.

I guess we can all fall into insecurities if we let cultural stereotypes dictate us. Perhaps, with age, we start to care less.

  4. It is really messed up how today's society gives so many beautiful women body issues.

I've been there. I was at one point hospitalized for anorexia and though I'm much better now, I still really struggle with self image problems.

It's really important that you're there to support your sister and be her voice of reason.

I kind of had to learn to shift my view and realize that not everyone is the same and a lot of women on the covers of magazines and in movies don't actually look like that.

A way to try and change her perspective is tell her that the most important thing is to be healthy, and being too thin isn't. Eating right and working out will give you the body shape that you were meant to have and you don't have to go to extremes to be beautiful.

It's great that you made this video and this post.

  5. "That's not tummy fat; that's tummy!"

I am not fat. I need to get in shape. There's a difference. I don't think that people should totally let themselves go*, but I do think that people should recognize the kind of body they have and work with it. Be healthy, not skinny. I mean, I can't say I don't have self-esteem crises every once in a while (swimsuits come to mind), but overall I'm pretty cool with myself.

(*I think people should care enough about their appearance to look presentable, and it is fun to know you look especially nice every so often.)

Yes. This needs to start with us.

  6. I think that blaming the fashion world and other people is the same as blaming video games for teaching kids violence. Just because we see it doesn't mean that we have to act it out. I do think that, at least this concerns me, we're being healthy. And that has nothing to do with how skinny you can make your self or how much fat you should have on your stomach. But being healthy in general.

One time my boyfriend told me that the little girl his mother baby-sat made the comment that she wanted to be like me an not wear make-up. That strangely made me happy.

p.s. I really enjoyed the vlog!

  7. I can't say I don't identify with your sister.

However, I get where you're coming from, and bravo for speaking your mind and deciding to do something about it. I really do admire you.

  8. Tash - You sound like the kind of big sister everyone should have.

Mermaid - It is really hard...I know a little bit. Hugs to you--and thank you again.

pinkapplecore - You don't wear makeup either? Awe-some. High fives to us. That would make me happy too.

Anonymous - Thank you. I must say, I certainly understand where my sister is coming from too, hah, though I like to believe I am working myself into a better mindset.

  9. Wow, I think this is the first time I've heard your voice. Its lower in tone then I imagined it.

I agree with your "rant" and hope that someday people can live in a world where they can feel confident about themselves.

  12. Great video.

You might have already seen this video, but it also falls along the same lines...

  13. So I realize now that I might be commenting too much around your blog and bordering on "creepy" status but I just wanted to say, this video was very thought provoking for me. I have struggled to live in my body over the years and I am finally growing out of it. I really want to support my two little sisters so they don't have to go through the same cycles of nonsense that I did. You seem like a wonderful person with a great head on your shoulders. That's all. :)

  14. Kait - Hey, no way...definitely not. :)

I really want (and strive) to do that too. Not just for my little kinfolk, but for everyone else in whose spheres I travel. Even individuals who push the boundaries are meaningful, this I KNOW.

Thank you. For the compliment as well as for stopping by to discuss.
